What is PREPARES?

PREPARES for Life was launched in 2014 as a statewide initiative of the Catholic Bishops of Washington to help parishes accompany pregnant women and families with children under the age of five. Follow this link to learn more about the PREPARES network of ministries: https://www.preparesforlife.org/about

“We want to make sure that no child – born or unborn – is ever abandoned or alone. We want to make sure that every mother whether she is in a small rural town or a large city…has caring people around her, walking those critical first five years of her child’s life. “

— Bishop Joseph Tyson Cornerstone Conference 2014.

What is Little Roses?

Through our Little Roses Baby Boutique, PREPARES of North Kitsap provides material support to pregnant mothers, fathers, and their children from pre-born through age 5. We collect and give away gently used infant & toddler clothing along with other ‘baby support gear’ along with new diapers, wipes, and car seats.

Why are we doing this?

Children are a precious gift from God, but providing everything a baby needs can be challenging especially in the early years when they’re growing fast! We are so grateful you’ve welcomed children into your life; we want to help you and your family get what you need to thrive.

Behold, children are a gift of the Lord, the fruit of the womb is a reward.

-Psalm 127:3-5

CAN I VOLUNTEER?

Yes, please! The only qualifications you need to volunteer are:

  • The desire to make a difference and “walk the journey” with pregnant and parenting mothers, fathers, and families.
  • Commitment to being a volunteer and to work directly with the PREPARES of North Kitsap Coordinator.
  • Ability to say no without guilt!!
  • Patience, reliability, and dependability.

Since our volunteers work with families and children, all volunteers must complete the Seattle Archdiocese on-line Safe Environment Training and sign an agreement to follow PREPARES conduct guidelines.

Contact our coordinator, Debra Dineen at dineendk@gmail.com to learn more about volunteer requirements.

WHAT DO LITTLE ROSES VOLUNTEERS DO?

Volunteers will be asked to help with the following for 2-3 hours at least once/month on either a weekend or on the Monday afternoon prior to a shopping day:

  • Sort through donated items.
  • Help pack bags to give to families in need.
  • Stock display racks in the shopping area.
  • Help keep stored items and storage spaces clean, organized, & tidy.

Volunteers who are available to help during shopping hours, will do the following under the supervision of the coordinator or a trained supervising volunteer:

  • Accompany shoppers 1:1 to make sure they get what they need and to tally the number of items a family is given (we report this to the diocese, to help track how many families are served and an estimated number of items provided).
  • Help keep display racks neat & organized; replenish racks when they run low.
  • Help keep our shopping & play area clean, organized, & tidy.
