arish Description
St. Olaf Parish is one of the
fastest growing Catholic parishes in the Archdiocese of Seattle. Know that you
are most welcome to our Faith Community, and we greatly appreciate your presence
with us. Please join us in our prayers, our liturgical celebrations, and our
many ministries. If you are new to the parish, I encourage you to fill out a
green census card (found in the Church vestibule or in the Parish Office).
Please bring the census card either into the Parish Office or drop it in the
collection basket during Mass on Sunday. You can call the Parish Office
(360-779-6558) to receive assistance with "connecting" with any of the
activities or ministries in the Parish that are summarized [on this web site].
I hope you will want to share your gifts with us.
Our Parish was originally
founded in Suquamish at St. Peter Mission in 1904 on the site next to the Native
American cemetery where Chief Sealth, a baptized Catholic, is buried. In 1956,
Father Max Murray purchased property in Poulsbo (now St. Olaf's Church), and in
1968 a new Parish was established. Saint Olaf, King of Norway, was chosen as
our Parish patron saint to acknowledge the Scandinavian roots of Poulsbo. St. Olaf's Church was dedicated by Archbishop Thomas A. Connolly, on June 29, 1969.
At that time, St. Peter's became a mission of St. Olaf Parish. At present, our Parish serves
over 1,100 Catholic families coming from Poulsbo, Kingston, North Silverdale, Hansville, Suquamish, Keyport, Port Gamble, Indianola, and Port Ludlow. Once
again, as St. Olaf, our patron saint would say, "VELKOMEN"!
