THE VISION: Youth Ministry is the response of the St. Olaf/St. Peter’s community to the needs of young people, and the sharing of the unique gifts of youth with the larger community, the church.
To empower young people to live as disciples of Jesus Christ in our world today.
To draw young people to responsible participation in the life, mission and work of the Catholic Faith Community.
To foster the total personal and spiritual growth of each young person.
Youth Ministry here at St. Olaf/St. Peter’s is divided into two distinct but unique groups. Jr. High is comprised of students in the 7th and 8th grades. The Sr. High is comprised of students in the 9th thru 12th grades. Both youth groups are conducted on a year round, twelve month schedule, designed to meet the goals outlined above.
Using the document; Renewing the Vision, A Framework for Catholic Youth Ministry, published by the National Conference of Catholic Bishops, as our guideline, Youth Ministry strives to meet the needs of the youth of different cultures and wide backgrounds and experiences from within our faith community. Areas of development and experiences discussed and modeled include the Ministry of: Advocacy, Catechesis, Community Life, Evangelization, Justice and Service, Leadership Development, Pastoral Care, and Prayer and Worship.
The
Sr. High meets for 2 hours on Sunday
evenings, in the
Youth Center, according to the years published schedule.
During this time period, prayer, catechesis, games and social activities
occur. Throughout the year various events and experiences are scheduled to
further enhance the development of the youth. Some of these are: retreats,
mini-retreats, youth conventions, service projects, and even an occasional
rafting trip. During the summer months, June thru August, the Sr. High meets
twice monthly on Wednesday evenings to avoid interfering with family weekend
activities.
The Jr. High Youth Group meets for 2 hours on Thursday evenings, in the Youth Center, according to the years published schedule. Modeled after the Sr. High, but with more emphasis on catechesis, social development and service. The Jr. High Youth also experience many of the same types of activities as the Sr. High. During the summer months, June thru August, the Jr. High meets twice monthly, also on Thursday evenings.
Youth Ministry is a vibrant and exciting experience here at St. Olaf’s and is enhanced by the attendance of more and more youth. What a great way to experience God in your life along with other youth your age and grade level. So Come, visit and join in on the fun. See you There!!
